Dear Parents/Guardians, our new school year is almost upon us, and we will be sending out a few email messages before the first day of classes.

Please ensure you read these important messages and follow any instructions prior to the deadline given.

If your child is not returning to West Springs School for this school year, please contact us immediately at westsprings@cbe.ab.ca so we can offer the place to another child.

This email contains the most frequent answers to questions we get asked prior to the first day to help both new and returning families.

***PLEASE NOTE: The City of Calgary is undergoing traffic calming measures at the main intersection and crosswalks for our school. Construction is ongoing and will NOT be complete for the first week of school. Please plan accordingly.

• Teachers and Administration return to the building on Wednesday August 26 for planning and organization   
• The school office opens at 8:30 am on August 26

• The name of your child's teacher will not be released until we have processed the many new registrations received.  We thank you in advance for your patience at this busy time of year
• Teachers will send an email by Friday August 28 introducing themselves and giving instructions for the first day
• School supplies are purchased by the CBE and a charge made to MyCBE accounts in early October.  You do not need to provide any supplies
• Children need to bring to school: a backpack, indoor shoes, a packed lunch in a lunch bag, a water bottle and at least two snacks.  We are a nut-aware school and ask that you do not send nut products.
• Monday August 31 is a full day of school Gr. 1-4: 9:00 am – 3:30 pm
• From September 1 onwards, entry doors open at 8:55 am and classes start promptly at 9:00 am.  Please help your child to arrive on time every day
• There is absolutely no parking in the bus zone or staff parking lot for pick up or drop off.   The City of Calgary is undergoing traffic calming measures at the main intersection and crosswalks for our school. Construction is ongoing and will NOT be complete for the first week of school. Please plan accordingly​​​​​​​
• Children enter/exit using their assigned doors as advised by Teachers
• Morning supervision starts at 8:45 am every day.  If you arrive before this time, you must stay with your child until teachers are outside to supervise students
• Bus routes and stops will be posted in MyCBE accounts for 2026-2027 registered yellow school bus riders.  Please check as times and locations may have changed since last year.  Transportation for registered Kindergarten children starts on Wednesday September 2
• If you have not yet registered and would like your child to ride the school bus, please apply via your MyCBE account  
• If your child will not attend school on August 31, please remember to call the school and leave a message on our 24-hour absence line: 403 777 6244 extension 1 or email westsprings@cbe.ab.ca
• Several mandatory forms will be posted into School Engage (found within MyCBE accounts) soon.  Some forms directly relate to government funding.  We process the forms in a set order and must process them before the end of September.  Volunteer Registration forms are the last to be reviewed.  These forms may not be opened for processing until early October.  We thank you for your patience  Annual School Demographics forms are accessed through myCBE/School Engage and must be approved and updated by legal guardians as needed each year.  Volunteering: New volunteers can apply through their myCBE/School Engage account.  Once processed in the school office it will go to CPS.  Once parents have completed the application with the voucher from CPS it will return to the school office for final approval.  Volunteer clearances are good for 5 years.  Current volunteers also need to log into their myCBE/School Engage account annually to complete their annual volunteer form.

• Lunch and Bus fees will be posted to accounts in mid-October
• Communication from both the school and your child’s teacher is always sent by email.  Additional information about the school is also sent by email but you must subscribe to receive these messages (Fun Lunch, Council events, fundraising, volunteer opportunities, etc). • Kindergarten staggered entry is on August 31 and September 1: students and parents wait at the kindergarten doors ahead of your session time to enter the school. Kindergarten families have received a separate email today detailing their staggered entry times. Parents were notified of their AM or PM placement via email in June. (detailed information will be sent directly to kindergarten parents)Regular schedule will commence for both AM and PM groups on Wednesday September 2nd and our PM kindergarten students will attend on the first Friday, September 4.  Transportation for registered Kindergarten children starts on Wednesday September 2
