Dear West Springs Families,
Attendance Matters:
Thank you to our families for making daily, punctual attendance a priority. Each school day is an opportunity for students to learn, practice new skills and connect with others. Regular attendance and arriving on time helps students begin their day ready to learn and fully participate in classroom activities.
Morning arrival times:
Doors open at 8:55 am, and the final bell rings at 9:00 am. Doors close right away so teachers can return to class. If you miss the doors, we are happy to welcome you through the front doors at the main office.
Toys/Fidgets/Squishies:
Students bringing toys to school in their backpacks have become an issue at school. We have had several toys be broken, taken and ruined recently so we are asking parents to help us remind their children that there are NO toys, personal items like fidgets, squishies or technology of any kind allowed at school. It is impacting their ability to engage in their learning. We even had a squishy have its contents explode all over a teacher's clothing today which is obviously unexpected. The school is not responsible for lost or broken items.
Fire drills:
Fire drills are a long-standing expectation of everyone who congregtes in a setting such as a school. We had a fire drill today. We practice evacuating the building when we hear the fire bell. When the bell sounds, we exit the building quickly while being safe, silent and serious. Our students are expected to treat fire drills like the real thing as other than the first drill, they are all unannounced, meaning neither students nor staff are aware of the timing of the drills and don't know whether they are real emergencies or practices. We are generally very proud of our students during our drills. Today took longer than expected to evacuate safely and I had to remind the students to be silent and serious several times. Please re-enforce this message at home.
Picture re-takes: There will be no picture retakes next week.
They have been rescheduled to November 5 and 16. See letter from Lifetouch below.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Susan Westgate and Leah MacMillan, WSS Administration
Dear Families,
We sincerely apologize for the delay in getting your child’s photo proofs out to you. While this issue has not affected the entire school, a number of students have been affected. We are still working diligently to resolve this and appreciate your patience and understanding.
In the meantime, we have adjusted our photo schedule to accommodate students who missed photo day, require retakes, or have not yet received their photo proofs. Class group photos will also be taken on November 5.
Important Dates:
- November 5: Retakes, missed photos, photos for students who have not received a proof, and class group photos.
- November 16: An additional retake day.
Parent Action Required: If you would like your child to have a retake, please notify their teacher. We have a list of students who have not yet received a photo proof. All students on that list will automatically have their photos taken in the November 5 photo session.
We apologize again for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to get everything back on track.
Warm regards,
