A message was sent earlier this week, but if you missed it, Mrs. Westgate will be taking some time off.  In her absence Mr. Matt Lowe will be our acting interim Principal

He has recently retired from the Calgary Board of Education after a 34 year career which included 18 years as Principal.  Please contact the school office at 403 777- 6244 or email him directly at mhlowe@cbe.ab.ca should you have any questions

Welcome Mr. Lowe to West Springs School!

Choir Update

Hello West Springs Families,

Please see the notes in the school message about the upcoming performances next week. I believe these have covered all of the salient details.

One last point:

Grade 3/4 choir will meet on Monday at lunch recess for our final practice before the performances. Grade 1/2 choir will meet on Tuesday at lunch recess for our final practice before the performances. Our regular practice times have been rescheduled as we feel it's important for them to go outside and run around on Wednesday and Thursday!

It will be great to get the kids up onstage and singing and playing for you next week.

Have a great weekend, Mr. Peter Vooys

April 22 and 23 Music Performances

Dear families,

We are excited to share the details for our Celebration of Music Learning: Spring Concert happening next week on April 22 and 23.

Here are the details for our two evening performances:

The show will begin at 6:00 pm and it is approximately 60 minutes long. Each grade will perform one song to showcase some of their learning in the music program this year. Both choirs will also perform. We have a grade 3 and 4 choir and a grade 1 and 2 choir. These students have been practicing with Mr. Vooys at lunch recess once per week.

Doors will open at 5:45 pm each night so that students can make their way to their classrooms and be ready to start at 6:00pm.

Our fire code is what determines how many spectators we can accommodate in the gymnasium. For this performance, we ask families to limit themselves to TWO SPECTATORS PER STUDENT. If you have 2 or more children who attend our school, their performances may be on the same night, or they may be on different nights. Unfortunately, it is impossible for the school to plan for all siblings’ shows to be on the same night. If your children are all on the same night, it is 2 spectators per child. For example, you have 3 children and they are all performing on Wednesday night – you can invite 6 people to watch the show. If they are on separate nights, it is two spectators per child. We will not be issuing tickets; it will be on the honour system. **Siblings who do not attend WSS anymore or are younger (0-5) are welcome to attend with their families and do not count in the above numbers. We ask families to respect these rules. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and flexibility.

The program will not be finalized until the day of the show. We cannot accommodate mid-show pickups. The students have worked very hard and will appreciate the audience remaining for the entire show. This is our only evening performance of the year; we know you and your child(ren) will enjoy the entire show!

Choir students are welcome to perform in both shows if they can. On the night that their class is NOT performing, there will be supervision in the music room for “choir only” students. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate additional spectators just to watch choir as we will hit our capacity limit. If you child is able and wants to perform on the opposite night of their class, please drop your child and the school between 5:45pm and 6:00pm and pick them up at 7:00pm. They should go directly to the music room. Thank you!

At the end of the performance, families can pick-up their child(ren) in their classroom and exit out their regular doors.

There will be a dress rehearsal beginning at 2:15 pm on the same day as the show. Parents and guests are welcome to attend the dress rehearsals if they can and there is no limit for spectators. As only half the students will be watching each day, we have a lot of capacity for extra guests. The show may have some tech tweaks happening but will still be an excellent celebration of learning! If parents choose to take their children home after the show before the bell, we ask you to please sign them out at the office and let your child’s teacher know. Thank you!
