Dear families,
Welcome back to another school year at West Springs School! We were so excited to have the students back at school engaging in the many things that help our school run smoothly! A positive energy could be felt in the building. It was great!
At West Springs School we believe that our strength comes from our sense of belonging and community. Our work together is guided by our motto, Care for Self, Care for Others and Care for our Place. Our staff value our partnership with families. As the year progresses, we will continue connecting with you to celebrate your child’s successes, and we will work together to address any areas where they are experiencing challenges. Here’s to a wonderful year filled with growth, kindness and community.
Our first family event is the Welcome Back Picnic – Meet the Teacher on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 3:45 – 5:45pm. More details to follow next week!
Before School Supervision
- Supervision is provided from 8:45 am outside and at 7855am students the bell rings for students to enter the building, via their class entry doors, for a soft start. Instruction begins promptly at 9:00 am
- Please note there is no supervision of the play equipment from 8:45 – 8:55 am as students are given other opportunities to use the equipment throughout the week under the supervision of their teachers and lunchroom supervisors
- It is important to establish healthy routines in the morning and arrive promptly before instruction begins at 9:00 am. Should your child arrive after 9:00 am please enter through the front door and remind them to check in as a late arrival at the office
Drop Off/ Pick Up
- Please be aware that the Bus Zone in front of the school is reserved for bus drop off and pick up only. We have 2 buses this year so there is even less room.
- Parking and drop-off/pick-up is not permitted in the Staff Parking Lot or in the Bus Zone. We also remind families not to walk in the staff car park and to please use the sidewalk. Please help us keep all our students and families safe.
- Please use the designated crosswalks to cross the street. Children are always watching!
Reporting Absences/lates
- We kindly ask that all absences are reported using the automated phone system. The 403 777 6244 ext 1 number is available 24 hours a day. Emails or notes to teachers may not be seen during instructional time. A phone call home is made when students are absent without notification.
Change to end of day plans
- If your child usually rides the yellow school bus home, but has a change to that routine, parents are reminded to call the office before 3:00 pm (12:15 on Fridays) so we can update our bus attendance sheet and not delay the buses leaving.

Hello West Springs Families!

Volunteer opportunities:
The West Springs School Council and the WSSDA are currently looking to fill two volunteer roles for the 2025/2026 school year:
- Fun Lunch Coordinator
- Yearbook Coordinator
No experience is necessary, and we can have more than one person in each of these roles! Please reach out to westspringsschoolcouncil@gmail.com if you're interested in learning more. Thanks so much in advance. We can't offer these types of programs without volunteer support!
Upcoming Fundraiser
West Springs and West Ridge Casino – November 13,14, 17 & 18.
The Casino is our school’s biggest fundraiser and brings in over $70,000 which help fund learning initiatives at West Springs School. Please consider volunteering, this opportunity only comes up every two years and we must meet volunteer requirements to have this fundraiser.

Fun Lunch:
Orders are available from October through May via Healthy Hunger. Our first Fun Lunch of the year is October 16. Sign up will be available shortly.
