Over the past 2 weeks we have been getting to know our wonderful students and establishing the important routines that help make West Springs School an incredible place to learn and grow for over 600 students in Grades K – 4. We came together this morning for a whole-school assembly to connect with each other and meet all the staff who are so excited to be part of our story this year. We acknowledged the land, sang O Canada and read a funny story together. We watched an important video about Playground Safety made by WSS Grade 4 students last year! We saw pictures of our first day of school last week and fun group photos of each new classroom that Mrs. Wright so graciously took last week. We talked about why there are so many rules to learn and how they help keep us safe in our classrooms, our lunchrooms and outside. We sang a song together and were reminded about how we are strongest when we work together as one big community of learners.
Thank you to all the families who have shared a smile and a hello during drop off and pickup, it has been wonderful to see so many familiar faces and meet some new ones over the past couple weeks.
Meet the Teacher/Welcome Back Picnic
You are invited to our Meet the Teacher event on Thursday, September 18, from 4:30 –6:00 p.m. This will be an open-house style event. Families are welcome to drop into the classrooms anytime during the open house to meet the teacher and take a look at the spaces where all our incredible learning will take place this year! At 4:35 and 5:15pm, teachers will share a brief overview of the classroom routines, what to expect in this new grade, a look around the room, and see the school. Our specialists, Mr. Choate, Mr. Vooys and Ms. Wright will also be in their spaces (Learning Commons, Music Room and Gym foyer) for a meet and greet!
Beginning at 3:45pm, please join our School Council Welcome-Back Picnic on the compound and school field! There will be fruit snacks for all students' courtesy of council, and families can choose to order a Subway sandwich from Healthy Hunger for the entire family if you’d like!
