Earth Rangers Presentations

The students really enjoyed our Earth Rangers presentation this week! Ask your child about the snake, lizard and armadillo we met!

Away for the Day: Personal Mobile Device Use Policy Reminder

We have seen an increase in recent weeks of personal mobile devices at school – particularly smart watches. This is a reminder that students are not permitted to wear a smart watch to school, even if the connection to the internet has been disable. Personal devices MUST be out of sight for the entire school day, meaning watches would need to be in backpacks and not on students’ wrists. This policy has been in effect since September 2024 and is an Alberta Government Ministerial Order. To meet the expectations of the Ministerial Order, students in kindergarten to Grade 9 follow the CBE’s ‘Away for the Day’ guidelines similar to what many schools have been using in recent years. Personal mobile devices including cell phones, tablets, gaming devices, laptops, smart watches, Bluetooth speakers/headphones or any personal electronic device that can be used to communicate with or access the internet are NOT permitted at school.

Please Remember:

  • No personal mobile device use is permitted during the school day
  • Devices brought to school must be out of sight and either powered of or set to silent (The CBE and WSS urge families to keep devices at home altogether)

Thank you for your support in adhering to this very important and mandatory policy.

No toys or items from home

This is a reminder that no toys are allowed at school. We also do not permit personal Moonballs at school because they are too hard to manage with large groups of students. We have a wonderful assortment of school equipment the students have access to for outdoor play.

Hello West Springs Families,

Grade 1/2 Choir News

Our choir season was cut short when the outbreak began, and now that we're back to normal, I'd like to have at least one, and possibly a couple of optional choir practices with the Grade 1/2 choir, as their choir season was very short.

At this time of year,  it is evident that many of the kids need to run around outside at lunch recess, but it appears that Monday next week will be much cooler and possibly rainy, so I plan to have a Grade 1/2 choir practice at lunch recess on Monday (rather than Wednesday). It will not be mandatory, but anyone who signed up for choir is welcome. We do not have the opportunity for a performance in June, as the storytelling evenings in April were the performance we had been planning on, but I think that singing together will be a good thing for a lot of our students.

Best, Mr. Vooys
