Dear West Springs Families,
You may have heard your child talking about an exciting new learning tool in our school which are the awesome Dash Robots. We are fortunate enough to have a class set of these engaging and hands-on resources that all of our students have had the chance to explore. In our new Science curriculum this year, there is a focus on computer science and problem-solving using technology. During Flex time on Fridays as well as in classrooms, our students are presented with a new opportunity to work with coding-based games and challenges that ask them to engage in productive struggle and make a few attempts before finding the right solution. They are presented with child-friendly applications when programming our robots to complete tasks like following a path, looking around, making noises or faces, and even throwing a ball or lifting shapes. These robots have been a huge hit in our school, and we are excited to keep exploring with these robots to challenge ourselves and grow as learners!
Our spring weather took an interesting turn this week but that didn’t stop our outdoor fun! The students didn’t hesitate to embrace the snow and enjoyed shoveling, creating snowmen, and working together to create giant snowballs in our field! Our grade 4 students enjoyed a visit to West Ridge School to watch their performance of Finding Nemo.
We are excited to share that Mr. Vooys’ smiling face will be back at West Springs starting Monday. He will be in and out of classrooms over the next few weeks and will return to full time duties by the end of the month. Mrs. Hirl-Johnson will continue to be a part of the team until his return.
