Remembrance Day Assembly

Our Remembrance Day assembly will take place on Thursday, November 7 at 2pm. As per the Remembrance Day Act, we will observe a moment of silence at 11am and will come together as a school beginning at 2pm for the assembly. This is a change from previous communication that had the assembly occurring in the morning. The change has been made to accommodate the swimming so that all students can take part in the assembly.

WSS Music Notes

Hello West Springs Parents,

I hope you've been having a good Fall! Here are a few learning highlights from each grade:

Grade 4: Finishing our preparation for Remembrance Day and practicing reading and clapping rhythms including sixteenth notes (tikka-tikka).

Grade 3: Practicing reading melodies using Do, Re, Mi, So, and La, learning about how a dot after a note increases its length, and reading and clapping rhythms including dotted half notes and rests (ta-a-a).

Grade 2: Practicing reading melodies using So, Mi, and La, and practicing reading and clapping rhythms including half notes (ta-a).

Grade 1: Learning our first So-Mi song, "Tick Tock" and our introduction to the Boomwhackers, plastic tubes of varying length that play different notes when struck.

Kindergarten: Learning several simple songs and practicing reading and clapping simple stick notation of rhythms including quarter notes (ta) and eighth notes (ti-ti).

Grade 3/4 Choir Starts next week on Monday, November 4 during lunch recess. I look forward to directing these singers. I'm planning to start Grade 1/2 choir sometime in the new year.

Have a great week!   Best Wishes, Mr. Vooys

We need you! Evening Volunteers Needed!

**Thank you to those who have signed up already! We are full for day shifts. We need help in the evening still, please see the information below. NO POLICE CLEARANCE REQUIRED FOR EVENING SHIFTS!

I’m excited to announce that our school will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair, which will take place from November 26 to November 28

For students, it’s one of the most anticipated events of the school year—but we need volunteers to make it happen. We still need volunteers on the evening of November 28th during conferences. The shifts will be 45 minutes to 1 hour in length. We hope that you can offer your time and talents to help students experience Bookjoy firsthand! And every purchase at the Fair directly benefits our school. So, it’s a win-win!

This year, we are happy to offer every volunteer a free book of your choice from the book fair to show our appreciation!

If you’re available to lend a hand at this upcoming event, please click on the Signup Genius link.
