Music Notes

Hello West Springs Parents,

I hope you enjoyed our Fall Break. There have been many excited stories about goings-on from the kids on their return to school this week. Here are a few learning highlights from each grade from the last few weeks.

Grade 4: Putting finishing touches on our Remembrance Day performance, and reflecting on the performance this week. Great job Grade 4s!

Grade 3: Learning "My Favourite Things" by Rodgers and Hammerstein. Practicing reading melodies including Do, Re, Mi, So, and La

Grade 2: Practicing reading So, Mi,La melodies, and singing "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning".

Grade 1: Learning "Do, Re, Mi" from The Sound of Music, and practicing with Boomwhackers (plastic tubes that produce a note when struck).

Kindergarten: Practicing simple rhythms with ta and ti-ti, and simple melodies with So and Mi. Watching a skydiving video, and listening to how the music changes to match what's happening in the video, and how the composer makes the video more exciting and interesting.

Choir: Grade 3/4 Choir will resume on Monday, November 18 at lunch recess. Our first practice a week and a half ago was promising, and I am thankful to work with a group of musical and respectful singers!

It feels like the week just started, but have a great weekend!

 Sincerely, Mr. Peter Vooys
