Dear Families,

CBE has communicated with families that due to Labour Action, classes for students are cancelled starting on Monday, October 6, 2025.

  • All classes are cancelled
  • Transportation is cancelled
  • The most up-to date information now and throughout labour action can be found on the CBE Labour Action website page

It is important to note that all teachers and administrators, including Ms. MacMillan and Mrs. Westgate will not have access to email and are not available for the duration of strike action.

The CBE will communicate directly with families any critical messages about re-entry plans when this information is available to the public and there is a resolution.

On behalf of the staff of West Springs School, we look forward to seeing students again as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Susan Westgate and Leah MacMillan

Off-site activities

The Calgary Board of Education has directed all schools to cancel scheduled in-school and off-site activities with external partners from Oct. 6-31.2025. Depending on the duration of the labour action, this could be extended into November.

While labour action may be resolved sooner, cancelling these activities enables schools to focus first on the resumption of learning after teachers are back in schools. For WSS, the grade 4s had a trip to the Landfill that has been postponed and the grade 3s had a trip to Storybook theatre that has been cancelled. There were no fees collected for either of these activities.

Message from School Council/WSSDA

The planned School Council Meeting on October 16, 2025, at 6:30 online will not go ahead if there is ongoing labour action and the school remain closed for learning. If you have any questions about the meetings or school council matters in general, you are welcome to email westspringsschoolcouncil@gmail.com This is an independent email that goes directly to our School Council chair and vice-chair and is not associated with West Springs School administration.

WSSDA is looking for volunteers still for Fun Lunches this year as well as the critical Casino on November 13, 14, 17 & 18. Please click here to read more about WSSDA events and opportunities.
