Dear West Springs Families,

As I left the school from our School Council Annual General Meeting late last night during the rainstorm, the most beautiful double rainbow appeared over our school. I snapped a quick photo and have shared it with all of you in the message.

I was struck by the beauty and peace I felt in the moment. It continued to rain but not as hard as when I left the school; and the rainbow was one of the brightest I have ever seen. I began to reflect on what nature offers us all amidst the busyness and chaos we can sometimes feel at this time of year: a gentle reminder that over the course of a few short minutes, one can go from a tumultuous storm of uncertainty, unkindness and unrest to a showcase of serenity, joy and awe. It is truly transformative to witness such contrasts in nature and like the rainbow’s persistence to shine through the clouds, I have been witnessing the same perseverance and joy in our learners each day.

Today’s environment in schools demands a lot from all stakeholders, including leaders, teachers, staff, students and families. Leaders, teachers and staff are caring for students and families, juggling classroom instruction, monitoring student learning and meeting each learner where they are at. They are overseeing school safety, communicating with parents and creating relationships in the community. At West Springs School, I am so proud of the way our staff have stepped into all of the important work of teaching and learning; each in their own impactful way. Like the rainbow that cannot come until after the storm, and like all elements of nature, each of us must work together and rely on each other to accomplish incredible things. WE are accomplishing incredible things at West Springs School. I am honoured to be a part of it and I look forward to finishing the year strong and in a good way.

Sincerely,

Susan Westgate, Principal

Evergreen Theatre

All students in our school enjoyed a fabulous presentation, “Snow White and the Seven Regions” on Wednesday. There were two shows, one in the morning and one in the afternoon and each show included some of our very own Grade 4 students! Ask your child about “Miri” and how we can help lessen the impact of climate change in Alberta.

Bus Registration in MyCBE account by June 16

Families are now able to register for school bus service for the 2024-25 school year. Service levels and proposed fees will remain the same as the current school year.

Apply Today

  • Registration is available using your MyCBE account. (If you do not already have an account, click here to learn how to create one.)
  • Families must register by Sunday, June 16 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year.
  • We continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.
  • Note: Conditional ridership forms will be available after the registration deadline.

This week in PE - Footwear for PE

As we continue to prioritize the importance of safety and well-being of our students I would like to remind you about the importance of proper footwear in Physical Education.

Proper footwear is crucial to prevent injuries during physical activities.  As spring has now sprung so have the Crocs and sandals.  Improper footwear can lead to blisters, discomfort and even injuries, even a Croc in 'sport mode' 😉

I ask that you continue to send your student to school with proper footwear for both indoor and outdoor PE.

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated and plays an important role in maintaining a safe and enjoyable learning environment for all students.
