We are looking forward to welcoming parents and families to the school next week for our Welcome Back Picnic and Meet the Teacher Night.
This special event takes place on Thursday, September 12th, 2024 from 4:00 – 5:15 and 5:30 – 7:00pm.
This is a school-sponsored event that includes an outdoor social component
(Welcome Back Picnic: 4 – 5:15pm) and an in-school teacher component
(Meet the Teacher Night 5:30 – 7:00pm).
Welcome Back Picnic 4:00 – 5:15pm
This fun event will be a wonderful opportunity for families to come to the school, see old friends and meet new ones, interact with teachers new and old and engage in a fun social event in a casual, “picnic” format. Subway has been set up on Healthy Hunger www.healthyhunger.ca for food purchases (OPTIONAL) and will be delivered to the school before 4pm that day if you would like to have some food during the picnic from Subway. ORDER DEADLINE for this option is in 2 days: Saturday September 7th at 11:59PM. Purchasing from Subway is completely optional and families are welcome to bring their own food as well or have no food and just mingle with each other. We hope you will join us for some or all of this event!
Note: This is not a Fun Lunch for food during school hours. This is an AFTER SCHOOL event.
We’d like to take a moment to thank School Council in advance for providing teachers with a sandwich from Subway for dinner during the picnic. We are so appreciative of your generosity.
Meet the Teacher 5:30 – 7:00pm
Our "Meet the Teacher Night" will take place in the school following the picnic beginning at 5:30pm. There will be three sessions for parents to come to the school to meet their child’s teacher and learn about a variety of things. Teachers will shift from outside on the compound during the picnic to their classrooms so that families can see their child(ren)’s learning space and meet the incredible professionals who make up our staff at West Springs School. We can’t wait!
Topics covered by teachers (the same session presented 3 times) may include: the classroom routines, curriculum and program highlights, ways you can be involved in the classroom as well as how you can support your child at home. There will be an opportunity for parents to ask general questions and share information with the teachers too!
Each session will last 25 minutes, and teachers will be speaking for the first 5 - 10 minutes, with the remaining time dedicated to casual conversations with the teacher and mingling in the classroom. Families can stay for some or all of the 25 minute sessions.
The three evening sessions for Grades K to 4 will be as follows:
5:30 – 5:55 pm; 6:00 – 6:25 pm; 6:30 – 6:55pm
Each teacher will repeat their session 3 times in the hope that families will be able to visit multiple classrooms. Parents with multiple children attending West Springs are welcome to stay in one room for the entire 25 minutes and go to multiple sessions, or move to another classroom during the same timeslot if they wish. Teacher presentations will be cycling on the Interactive Whiteboard in a Presentation format.
If parents feel like time is needed to discuss something specific in regards to their child’s learning, you are encouraged to connect with your classroom teacher directly via email or by phoning as these sessions are geared towards general questions and processes.
